FC Barcelona to Visit the Virginia Legacy Soccer Club this Summer
Professional Staff from Defending European Champions will lead Soccer Camp for Legacy Youth Players

Williamsburg, VA (March 23, 2007) The Virginia Legacy Soccer Club announced today that FC Barcelona, defending European Champions League Winners, will be coming to Williamsburg, Virginia this summer to lead a soccer camp for travel players. FC Barcelona, the number one soccer club in the world in 2006, is known for one of the best players in the soccer and worldwide icon Ronaldhino. They also house international superstars such as Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o. The team is also known for its homegrown talent Puyol, Inesta and Valdes – who were all products of the FC Barcelona youth system. FC Barcelona soccer schools will send over 1 director and 4 coaches from their professional youth academy staff to share their spin and shed new light on training drills and technique, as well as teach the players how young professionals act and carry themselves in a challenging environment. “This is a great chance for the players of the club to be trained by the same people who deal with high level professionals on a daily basis. It will give the players insight to what a young professional goes through and an unparalleled opportunity to work with the FC Barcelona Soccer Schools top coaches,” said Bobby O’Brien, Director of Youth Development. This opportunity stems from the close partnership that the Virginia Legacy Soccer Club holds with Nike, Inc. As 1 of 44 Nike Premier Clubs in the nation, the Virginia Legacy is able to work closely with professional soccer clubs to bring them to Williamsburg in the summer months. The VLSC is fortunate to be only one of four NIKE Premier Clubs that was chosen to host FC Barcelona this summer. “The Barcelona Camp will have a dramatic effect on our region. It is not every day that the defending European Champions show up on your doorstep. The membership of the Virginia Legacy Soccer Club should fell extremely fortunate of this opportunity,” said Jeff Dominguez, Executive Director of VLSC.
The camp will be held June 25-29th at the Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex on Longhill Rd. in Williamsburg. The camp will be open to boys and girls travel soccer players ages 9-17. There will be 8 groups of players broken up by gender and age. The eight groups will then split into 2 larger groups of 4. There will be a morning session and an afternoon session that takes place each day. Below are the times and age brackets for each group that will be available.
Monday, June 25th – Friday June 29th at Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex.
9:00 am – 12:00 pm
U10/U11 Boys – 18 spots
U10–U12 Girls – 18 spots
U12/U13 Boys – 18 spots
U13/U14 Girls – 18spots
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
U13/U14 Boys – 18 spots
U15 Boys – 18 spots
U16-U17 Boys – 18 spots
U15-U17 Girls – 18 spots
The cost of the camp is $319 and includes admission to the camp, a FC Barcelona Training jersey, a Nike soccer ball and FC Barcelona gym sack.
Registration will open on Monday, March 26th at 9:00am. Registration is on a first come first serve basis however those players interested who are from outside of the Virginia Legacy Club will be placed on a waiting list until April 20th. The entire balance of $319 must be paid at registration. There is no online registration; however you can sign up over the phone at 757-253-1947 or in person at the Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex, 5700 Warhill Trail, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Payment can be made by check or credit card. There are a limited number of scholarships available for this camp. If you choose to apply for one, please write an explanation letter and submit to the club office.
