David Pickeral Memorial Scholarship 2006 Winners Announced

Mayer and Brown Awarded as First Recipients of Scholarship

Williamsburg, VA (December 18, 2006) – The 2006 David Pickeral Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Patrick Brown and Jordan Mayer. Both players have continued their soccer careers at the college level. Brown is currently at Lynchburg College and Mayer at Wingate University. The yearly $1000 scholarship will be split amongst them and go towards tuition, fees, housing, and/or books. The club is now taking applications from all seniors for the 2007 award. "I am pleased that we can help continue David's legacy each year with this scholarship. His passion, desire, and leadership should be a model for all of our younger players. The club really wants to thank Robyn and Dennis Pickeral for everything they have done to make this happen," said Jeff Dominguez, Executive Director. Potential applicants are advised to download an application from the website and turn it into the club office by April 1, 2007.

David Pickeral Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Virginia Legacy Soccer Club Board of Directors decided that the fund would be invested in an endowment fund that the Board of Directors will oversee. Each year a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in David’s name to a Virginia Legacy Soccer Club senior intending to continue their studies at college. The applicant may be male or female but must have played with the WSC/VLSC for at least three years.  The Board of Directors will develop and oversee an application process. A review committee will award the scholarship. The money must go towards tuition, fees, housing or books. In order to continue to fund the scholarship in perpetuity a percentage of income from the Virginia Club Champions League Showcase for boys will go directly into the fund. The Showcase will be renamed the David Pickeral Memorial College Showcase.
