The Legacy came out flat in the first 10 minutes and they were punished for it. The Eastern New York team scored from a good volley from outside the 18 yard box. The Legacy responded well with Andrew Hoxie scoring three well earned goals in the first half to make the score 3-1.

Match Report from Virginia Legacy game vs Beachside in first game of Regionals.  Results in 2-1 Victory...

The U-19 Virginia Legacy could not have asked for a better start to their first game of the Region 1 Youth Championships.  A 2-1 victory over Beachside SC from Connecticut earned them three points and put them in a good position to advance from their group to the semi-finals with two group games left to play.

The Legacy started off well maintaining possession for large portions of the first half, creating numerous scoring chances. However, it was not until late in the first half that the legacy first got on the board.  After a rare flurry in front of the Legacy goal, that involved some great defending by left back Marcus Dixon and quality saves by goalkeeper John Anderson, the Legacy counterattacked quickly, catching Beachside off guard and numbers down.  Andrew Hoxie did very well holding off two Beachside defenders and then finding Jack Collins in front of goal who calmly slotted the ball past the Beachside goalkeeper.

The second half began with Beachside coming out and applying more pressure, but they were still unable to create quality chances.  With Beachside again pushing numbers forward the Legacy were able to effectively counterattack. Put through by an excellent ball by Andrew Hoxie, Max Hare calmly finished off his one on one breakaway the Beachside keeper to give the Legacy a 2-0 lead. Beachside then switched formations to a 4-3-3 to try and create more offense. With about 15 minutes left to play Beachside finally found the back of the net narrowing the score to 2-1. The game would end with Beachside applying more offensive pressure but still being unable to find an equalizer.

With the three points in hand, the Legacy hope to remain atop the table with a good result over CSA Roma from Delaware at 3:00 pm on Saturday.

Two late goals secure championship

In the State Cup Finals the Under-19 Legacy took on the Gunston Dragons who just came off a 10-0 victory in the Semi-Final against the Chantilly Soccer Club. The Legacy set out to prove why they were defending State Champions dominating the first half with several chances.  In the 40th minute Chris Knorowski beat two defenders down the left sideline and put a cross into the box that found Jack Collins who then finished it off making it 1-0 going into the half.

The second half started with Gunston pushing forward but only exposing themselves at the back. This gave the Legacy numerous opportunities and put the Dragons on their heels.  This opened up everything for the Legacy’s attack as they pushed on and sprung Max Hare free inside the box, he gave a great ball across to the wide open Jeremy Harris who then put away the open net goal and putting the Legacy up 2-0.  Gunston’s frustration started to show as they received three red cards in the final minutes.  Taking advantage of the extra men the Legacy finished off the Dragons with Andrew Hoxie’s finish putting the Legacy up 3-0 and going on to successfully defend their title winning back to back state championships.  The Legacy will move on to the regional tournament at the end of June in Virginia Beach .

U19 ’86 Virginia Legacy Advance To Virginia State Cup Final Four

Hoxie score four goals in 7-0 rout

See Pictures Below...

In the opening round of State Cup this past weekend the Under-19 ’86 Virginia Legacy took on the Arlington Predators.  The Legacy got on the board early when Andrew Hoxie was taken down inside the box and then finished the ensuing penalty kick himself.  After a vicious tackle from behind on Alex Spirn from a Predator defender the referee decided it was deserving of a red card and they were down to ten men for the remainder of the game.  With a few decent chances from both sides the game started to settle down, until a free kick from Bryan Davis was swung into the box and found Hoxie’s head for his second goal of the game.

Nearing the end of the half things started to get out of hand.  After a foul was called an Arlington player continued to run his mouth to the official and was handed his second yellow and ejected from the game.  Before the official could even get the game started again he was forced to give another red card to an Arlington substitute for dissent.  The Predators did not have to lose another player because he was on the bench at the time of his ejection.  After all of this delay and commotion the Virginia Legacy found themselves up two goals and two players.

The second half started with two quick goals from Max Hare and Justin Madrid before the ten minute mark even hit.  Capitalizing on the extra men, Madrid added another goal and so did Andrew Hoxie with two more finishing his tally up with a total of four goals on the day.  With the Predators being down two men they just could not create anything offensively and their defense became tired and frustrated very quickly.  With this win the Virginia Legacy move on to the Virginia State Cup Final Four for the third time in three years.  They will face the Richmond Kickers Premier team at 12:00pm this Saturday. Also at 4:00pm will be the other semi-final match up between the Gunston Dragons and the Chantilly Eagles.  All games will be played at the Albert/Daly Field training facility.

U19 ’86 Virginia Legacy Lose to DC United U20’s

Legacy look forward to Virginia State Cup Quarter Final on Saturday

The Virginia Legacy’s under-19 club team took on the DC United under-20’s in a friendly match at Queens Lake with DC United winning 4-1 on Sunday May 28th. The scoreline however did not reflect the level of play put on by the Legacy’s under-19’s creating plenty of opportunities, keeping lots of possession and generally playing together very well.  The game went smoothly and gave the coaches a good chance to see the players in a real match. It also gave the players a good chance to play together for the first time in nearly a year.  The teams played three thirty minute periods with DC United winning the first 1-0 off of an early corner.  The second went the Legacy’s way winning the period 1-0 and the third was won by the United 3-0.   The whole point of this match was to get the team a scrimmage against a high level squad preparing them for their upcoming state cup contest against the Arlington Predators at Albert-Daly field this Saturday June 3rd at 2pm .
