Williamsburg Legacy PDL Combine was Held this Week
Weekend highlighted by 3-1 win over the All-Army team on Sunday

Williamsburg, VA (Janaury 8, 2007) - The 2007 Williamsburg Legacy met to begin its training for the upcoming PDL season. Top players from all over the region came to participate in the weekend combine directed by Head Coach, Kevin Darcy. Training during the weekend was very competitive and aggressive as players wanted to showcase their best abilities to vie for an opportunity to play with the team come May. The weekend was then capped off by a scrimmage against the All-Army team. The All-Army team consisted of players from all over the country convened at Ft. Eustis to compete in the Armed Forces Games.

The match, which was held on the Ft. Eustis Army base, was a great test for the Williamsburg Legacy team. Although going down a goal early in the match, the game was never in doubt as the Legacy kept control of the possession throughout the entire game. John Brittingham quickly put the game back to square as he scored from twelve yards out on a loose ball which he buried into the side netting. The scoring did not stop there in the first half as Sean Dreybus scored a fantastic individual goal from twenty yards out putting the ball in the upper corner. Both teams went into the locker room with the Legacy on top 2-1.

The Legacy continued to put the All-Army team under pressure in the second half controlling possession and holding their offense to very few shots. To put the game in hand, Brian Darby served a great ball into Bobby O’Brien who calmly beat the keeper to put the Legacy up by two. “I was extremely pleased with the level of play throughout the entire weekend. It is tough bringing a group of guys together for the first time, but the players quickly blended together and did a good job playing as a team. The core of this group will be a part of the final roster and I will continue to identify and recruit high level players over the next few months to enhance the group. This was a great start for the 2007 Legacy,” said Head Coach Kevin Darcy.

After a hard fought weekend, players will return to their respective schools and will reconvene here in Williamsburg on May 1st to begin training for the summer season.
