please read this article very carefully as it may answer many of the
questions that you have.
It
is with great pleasure that I announce the 2002-2003 Coaching Slate.
During the off-season Chris Friant, Assistant Director of Coaching, and I
have worked very hard to get the best coaches from the Tidewater area to
commit to coaching our players here at the Williamsburg Soccer Club. This
has taken a long time but we have got it right. The coaching slate I believe has worked out tremendously for each
team. There are a number of head coaches who will also be assisting on a
second team, which makes our programs even stronger. The best aspect of all
is that all of WSC’s coaches are now helping out with each other’s
teams. Just to be surrounded by so many college level coaches and qualified
soccer people is precisely what I intended to happen on a day-to-day basis.
Our players can only get better in this environment.
On
the girls premier side of the program I am extremely excited with the
coaching slate. With the introduction of John Daly, Head Women’s Coach at
William & Mary, Kwame Lloyd, Head Women’s Coach at Christopher Newport
University, Angela Napoli, Assistant Women’s Coach at William & Mary,
Maria Scott, an NSCAA licensed coach and Becca Stoner, a four year player at
William & Mary we have added a wealth of soccer experience for our
girls. It is also important that the three women mentioned above will be
coaching in our program, as they will certainly be positive female role
models for our girls to look up to.
The
boy’s premier side stays largely unchanged with the exception that Matt
Hansen, a former player at William & Mary and current Williamsburg
Legacy player, will coach the U10 premier team. Matt has “cut his teeth”
in youth soccer coaching the Rapids on the classic side of the house.
Through this team he has demonstrated that he is a worthy coach. The rest of
boys slate is phenomenal including three current collegiate coaches and
coaches with very strong soccer credentials.
Al
Albert will continue to be our older boys teams advisor and John Daly will
now be working as the girls older teams advisor. In this capacity they will
be working with the older two teams once a month, watching games and
liaising with me about college opportunities for these players. Johnnie
Kamara will also continue in his position as the Director of Developmental
Programs and Chuck Connelly will remain our Goalkeeper Trainer.
Chris
and I are exceedingly excited about being surrounded by this quality group
of female and male coaches. I truly believe that this is our best slate, top
to bottom, since I arrived here in 1992. The quality of coach and people in
the program make it complete on both the boys and girls sides. As we
continue to grow and add better programs we become even more of a club unit.
Coaches will be there at games to watch other teams, help evaluate players
and help out at training sessions. Philosophically, all these coaches are on
the same page as me, and that is extremely important for our programs.
It
is going to be a great season,
Richard
