Legacy down Royals and Dynasty
Hoxie scores 4 goals in 2 games
Williamsburg, VA (July 16, 2007) - With another double header weekend on the schedule, the Virginia Legacy’s depth was put to the test, and the team answered the challenge with a 2-0 record.
On Saturday night, the Legacy traveled up to Northern Virginia to take on the Royals for the second and final time this season. Play started out a little sloppy from both teams from the opening whistle. The pitch was in extremely poor condition and it was difficult for either team to connect many passes. With the field being an issue, the Legacy still managed to control the majority of the game but finding themselves in a 0-0 tie after the first half. With time winding down and the final whistle approaching, the Legacy finally broke the deadlock in the 85th minute after Dan Lader found Andrew Hoxie who was able to finish past Royals goalkeeper, Andrew Keszler.
Hoxie has been the go-to guy lately for the Legacy scoring leading the team in goals and points. And the Legacy looked to Hoxie again in the 90th minute. Hoxie found the end of a Jason McMillan ball and dribbled past Keszler and finished into an open net to put the game out of reach for the Royals.
After the late finish the night before, the Legacy then hosted the Delaware Dynasty the following evening, and the Legacy once again used their main threat, Andrew Hoxie. Hoxie again had a multi-goal game scoring the first two goals for the Legacy to start off what would be a goal fest of a game. Andrew Hoxie had two impressive goals, one chipping the keeper from about 30 yards out and the other off a free kick which found the upper corner of the goal.
Many others from the Legacy also got in the action this time as Jason McMillan put the tally up to three as the teams went in to the lockers at 3-1.
The Dynasty, although scoring two goals, never tested the Legacy has they controlled the game and put Delaware under pressure the entire night. Erwin Diaz forced an own goal from the Dynasty and Anthony Han recorded the final goal of the game for the Legacy. The match finished with a 5-2 win in favor of the Legacy.
This is the second time that Andrew Hoxie has had a multi-goal weekend. Hoxie scored 5 goals in two games two weekends ago which earned him PDL Player of the Week honors. Now scoring 4 goals in two games, Andrew Hoxie has now raised his goal tally to 13 goals in 15 games which places him fairly high on the PDL leader board.
The Legacy plays their final match of the season next Saturday against the Richmond Kickers Future at their newly constructed stadium inside of Warhill Sports Complex in Williamsburg, VA. This state-of-the-art Fieldturf stadium seats 3,500 people and has been a huge project for the county. The Virginia Legacy will be a part of the Grand Opening this weekend to unveil the new stadium.
