Virginia Legacy win two out of last three matches
Legacy now 3-3 in 4th place

Williamsburg, VA (June 4, 2007) - The Virginia Legacy are hard at work this 2007 season with a brand new look and make-up, and after six matches the team sits at a 3-3 record. After wrapping up the team’s first three matches with a losing 1-2 record, the team is now back to .500 with a solid three more games under their belt.
Kirkwood, Delaware was the start of a new beginning for the team as they traveled to take on the Delaware Dynasty on May 27th. After a disappointing 3-0 loss the night before, the team was ready to come out firing. The boys started the game with a much higher enthusiasm as they got on the board in the 29th minute off an Andrew Hoxie cross that was put away by defender, Dave Kroening. The Legacy continued put the Dynasty under pressure throughout the game. However, after a controversial call, the Dynasty was awarded a penalty kick in the 50th minute which was converted to tie the game at one. Just over 20 minutes later, Jeremy Harris broke the deadlock as he hit a shot which deflected off a Dynasty player and redirected in the back of the net. The Legacy was able to preserve the lead for the rest of the game and walk away with three points.
After a four day rest, the Virginia Legacy and Hampton Roads Piranhas squared up again—this time at the Hampton Roads Sportsplex in Virginia Beach. This meeting between the two was much more competitive as the Legacy continued their tough play from their previous match. The Legacy back line played strong and was able to limit the Piranhas attack to only eight shots all game. Unfortunately, in the 66th minute, the Piranhas found the net off an unassisted Andrew Wheeler goal. The Piranhas were put under pressure by the Legacy attack but were never beaten. The game ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Legacy and now held a record of 2-3.
After missing out on a possible away point, the Legacy then looked to recapture some of those lost points as they hosted the Fredericksburg Gunners on June 2nd. After a slow first half start, the Legacy was able to break the 0-0 tie with a Dan Lader goal in the 45th minute. Off a free kick from about 40 yards out, Lader challenged the Gunners’ keeper and a defender to head the ball in the net just before the half. With the lead in hand, the Legacy never looked back as they picked up their play in the second half. The Legacy out shot the Gunners 12-7 but were fortunate to keep the lead as the Gunners hit the post late in the second half.
After three solid games in a row now, the Virginia Legacy is looking to make a big run on the rest of the 2007 season. “We are finally starting to find our comfort zone and beginning to play like we can. Players are starting to perform at a higher level now and we are looking forward to making a run for the PDL playoffs come July,” says head coach Kevin Darcy.
The Legacy is back in action on Wednesday, June 6th as they travel to Richmond to take on the Kickers Futures at the Sportsbackers Stadium.
