TAMPA,
FL – United Soccer Leagues announced the Teams of the Week
for the W-League and Premier Development League Wednesday,
honoring Atlanta’s Sarah Steinmann Williamsburg’s
Taylor Rowe as the Players of the Week in the W-League and
PDL, respectively.
Steinmann
helped lead the Silverbacks to a surprising 3-0 road win over
the Charlotte Eagles, perennial contenders for the league
title.
Atlanta
's first goal came off a free kick about 30 yards out. Nel
Fettig, also on the Team of the Week, took the kick that found
the run of Sarah Steinmann.
Steinmann directed the shot on goal with a header,
beating goalkeeper Lindsey Deason to the right side.
Steinmann
scored her second goal of the match and first of the second
half in the 48th minute to take a 2-0 lead. Christine Latham
played a ball forward for Steinmann, who muscled her way into
position for the shot and the goal from about 12 yards out.
In
the 69th minute of play Sarah Steinmann finished the scoring
and her hat-trick of the match. Steinmann pushed the ball
forward deep into the
Charlotte
box and a defensive deflection came back to Steinmann. She
drilled a low shot to the right post to beat the save attempt
of Deason.
The
Williamsburg Legacy picked up a 2-0 road win over the Reading
Rage behind the outstanding effort of defender Taylor Rowe,
who contributed at both ends of the field in the shutout.
In
the 53rd minute Ross Mackenzie played a good ball from the
corner and center back Taylor Rowe headed home the first goal
of the season for the Legacy.
Just
11 minutes later, the Mackenzie-Rowe combination hooked up
again off a corner to give the Legacy a 2-0 lead. Rowe skied
over Rage goalkeeper Jeremy Vuolo to hammer home his second
goal of the game.
Rowe
then led the Legacy to a 1-1 draw at
Ocean
City
against a Barons squad that was
26-3-5
over the last two seasons.
