Week 7 W-League, PDL Teams of the Week announced

Hussey, Badecki named Players of the Week

TAMPA , FL – United Soccer Leagues announced Wednesday its USL W-League and Premier Development League Teams of the Week for the seventh week of the season, honoring Hampton Roads’ Jessica Hussey and Rhode Island ’s David Badecki as the Players of the Week, respectively.

A rare start for Hampton Roads saw them winless through four with 12 goals allowed on the season until Jessica Hussey stepped in front of the net Saturday against the star-studded Atlanta Silverbacks, one of the favorites to reach the W-League championship tournament.

The Piranhas keeper would have a phenomenal game in her first outing with the club, stopping numerous one-on-one attempts and making 10 saves on the night.

In three minutes of stoppage time at the close of the game and with a 2-1 lead over the visitors, Atlanta would pressure the Piranhas goal numerous times with Hussey making two diving saves to preserve the win and avenge a season sweep from the year before.

The James Madison keeper joined the Piranhas from a two-year stint with the Richmond Kickers Destiny, where she posted a 6-8-0 record with four shutouts. In 2002, the Canada-native was 3-2-2 with two shutouts with the Ottawa Fury.

The Rhode Island Stingrays broke loose with first-year midfielder David Badecki leading them past the Delaware Dynasty by a 7-2 scoreline.

Delaware got on the board a minute in and after two strikes from forward Lukasz Tumicz made it 2-1 in the 13th, Badecki took over, scoring the next two strikes in the 28th and 46th minutes.

The Polish sophomore from the University of Rhode Island finished the hat-trick in the 81st to make it 7-1, moving the Stingrays into second place in the division 3-2-0 , one point behind Cape Cod
