The VCCL is the Virginia Club Champions League (VCCL) and was founded in 1997. The League is managed by the Director’s of Coaching for the following teams: Beach FC, FC Richmond, Richmond Strikers, Roanoke Star, SOCA and Williamsburg SC.  It is a league run by soccer professionals, not volunteers. Competitive play is offered for both boys’ and girls’ divisions U10 through U18/19.  What is unique to the Champions League is the coordinated traveling schedule.  Each club’s entire contingent of teams travels together to all away games.

The multi year contractual agreement between the Williamsburg Legacy and the VCCL will give the VCCL the exclusive rights to the front of all Williamsburg Legacy Super-Y League jerseys, both home and away.

Dave Amsler, the president of VCCL said: “ By entering into this agreement there is a great opportunity for exposure for the VCCL as the Williamsburg Legacy Super –Y teams play in the mid Atlantic region though out the summer.  I feel this is a win/win situation for the VCCL and the Williamsburg Legacy Super Y.  I, along with the directors of the VCCL, feel that supporting this endeavor is extremely important for the development of youth soccer in the United States.”

Press Release #3:  PLAYER AGREEMENT WITH VCCL

The Williamsburg Legacy Super-Y League program is pleased to announce an unprecedented player agreement with the VCCL.

The VCCL is the Virginia Club Champions League (VCCL) and was founded in 1997. The League is managed by the Director’s of Coaching for the following clubs: Beach FC, FC Richmond, Richmond Strikers, Roanoke Star, SOCA and Williamsburg SC. It is a league that is run by soccer professionals, not volunteers.  Competitive play is offered for both boys’ and girls’ divisions U10 through U18/19.  What is unique to the Champions League is the coordinated traveling schedule.  Each club’s entire contingent of teams travels together to all away games

It is the responsibility of the Williamsburg Legacy Staff to get the best players regardless of where they come from to fill the rosters for the six Williamsburg Legacy Super Y teams.  The Super Y league is structured to “operate free from restrictions on the competition.  This includes expanded rosters and no limits on recruiting. The restrictive rules and regulations that are appropriate for rec-level soccer are detrimental to player development when applied for youth super leagues. This is about week-in, week-out hardcore competition between youth players who aspire to be professional players” as quoted by Francisco Marcos, president and founder of the United Soccer Leagues for the past fifteen years.

Dave Amsler, the president of VCCL said, “ This is a tremendous opportunity for the top 10 % of our players in the VCCL to play together in this national league under the Williamsburg Legacy.  The SYL is a league that is in a position to attract the top players and through this agreement the Williamsburg Legacy will have the top players from the Southern Virginia area.”

“ In order to be competitive in the Super Y League when you are playing against teams from CASL Elite, DC United of the MLS, and the A league finalist, Richmond Kickers we have to attract the top players to the Williamsburg Legacy Super Y teams. Through scouting League games and conversing with coaches in the VCCL we will make sure that the best players are selected from the Southern Virginia area, which is what Super Y is looking for.” quotes Richard Butler, Director of Coaching for the Williamsburg Soccer Club as well as General Manager for the Williamsburg Legacy.

Press Release #2:  WILLIAMSBURG LEGACY SUPER Y LEAGUE - WELCOME TO THE NEXT BIG STEP IN UNITED STATES SOCCER- THE SUPER Y LEAGUE

The Super Y League holds the status of “Other Affiliate Member” in good standing with the United States Soccer Federation, Inc. (USSF). Participation in the Super Y league will not affect current status as a member of USYSA, VYSA, or any other youth team. The Super Y League is an enhancement to the development of the top soccer players in this country.

Francisco Marcos, President of United Soccer Leagues and founder of the Super Y League has a passion for soccer.  His vision five years ago was to create a league for youth soccer players that would become the base of the pyramid for United Soccer Leagues’ PDL, D3 Pro League, W- League and A League. As well as for the WUSA and the MLS.  With our Legacy (PDL) team finishing it’s first season we felt prepared and excited to add to ‘our club structure’ the Super Y League.

Super Y does not come under the umbrella of VYSA, or any state association.  Our rules and regulations come under the direction and umbrella of USL.  The inaugural season began in 1999 with 16 organizations participating and how now grown to over 300 teams. The League has just been granted ODP status. “ We have long believed that the best opportunity for players to show themselves is in week-in ,week-out competition as opposed to the current tryout system currently in place,” said Marcos.  “Some players are just not tryout and practice players. What our system needed was a way to see these young athletes playing during official league competition.”
