Carlos Garcia,
Phil Hucles, Gonzalo Segares, & Milorad Djordjevic, all from the WSC Legacy were named to
the Division I All South Region Team
Second on the team for
William and Mary in scoring was Carlos
Garcia, WSC Legacy and WSC Select,
a forward. Garcia also had 11 assists and added nine goals for 29 points
on the year. He will go down as one of the most prolific offensive players
in school history, as he finished his career in the top-three at W&M
in virtually every offensive category, including points (121, second),
goals (45, third), assists (31, third), shots (311, first) and
game-winning goals (12, tied for third).
Phil Hucles, WSC Legacy began the season as a midfielder, but was
moved to the back line early in the year. Since his move to a defensive
position, W&M allowed just 20 goals in its last 20 matches and
recorded all eight of its shutouts this season. Hucles finished the year
fourth on the team with five goals and added one assist for a total of 11
points.
Both Carlos and Phil
helped to lead William and Mary to Colonial Athletic Conference
regular season championship and helped them advance to the third round of
the NCAA Championships.
Gonzalo
Segares, WSC Legacy,
was the leader of a VCU defense, which topped the CAA with a 0.92 goals
against average and has registered a league-best 11 shutouts in 21 games.
The sophomore outside back has also contributed offensively, tying for
second on the team in goals (5), tying for first in assists (8) and second
in points (18). Segares scored the game-winning goal in the Rams’ 1-0
victory over defending national champion North Carolina and had a pair of
goals in a 3-0 victory over Towson. He is the fourth VCU player in the
last five years to earn CAA Defender of the Year honors.
Milorad Djordjevic, WSC Legacy,
a second-team All-CAA pick, started all 21 games in central defense for
VCU, and scored the game-winning goal in the CAA championship game against
William & Mary in a 2-1 Rams victory. He started 60 games in the back
for the Rams the past three seasons.
