Legacy host Royals and Barons this weekend

Virginia falls to 3rd Place

Williamsburg, VA (June 26, 2007)  -  With the Virginia Legacy PDL team now in the 3rd Place spot in the Mid-Atlantic Division, the team must finish their remaining five games without a blemish to stay in the playoff hunt.

This weekend, the Legacy will have a chance to lock up two of those games as they host the Northern Virginia Royals on Saturday night, then the Ocean City Barons on Sunday night.

Northern Virginia (2-7-2) will be traveling to Williamsburg as they are set to kickoff at 7:00pm at Albert-Daly Field. This will be the first meeting between the two teams as they are both on the second half of their season. The Royals currently sit 7th Place in the Mid-Atlantic Division, recording 8 points after 11 games. Both teams in this match-up have been struggling when it comes to scoring, with both teams only notching 11 goals a piece. However, the Legacy defense has been much tighter thus far only conceding 13 goals while the Royals have given up a shocking 35. Only two other teams in the entire PDL have given up more.

After their match-up with the Royals, the Legacy will then play host to the Ocean City Barons the following night in a rematch of the game the week before. These two teams faced off in Ocean City, NJ last Friday as the Barons defeated the Legacy 1-0 which was a bit of a heated match. The game started with a high pace and never slowed a step. The Barons got on the board first with a Byron Carmichael goal in the 15th minute. The Legacy put the home side under constant pressure throughout the game creating a number of chances but never capitalizing on them. The Barons had their best chance to seal up the win late in the game as they missed an open goal from about 6 yards out. After 5 yellow cards and 1 red card, the game ended with a 1-0 score in favor of Ocean City.

With the end of the season growing near, both teams are looking to claim their spot in this year’s playoffs as only one of them have a chance to go through.

Both games will be held at Albert-Daly Field and kickoff is set for 7:00pm. For more information or ticket sales, call 757-253-1947 or visit www.valegacysoccer.com.
