Legacy visit Ocean City this Saturday
Legacy goes 1-1 in lengthy road trip
Williamsburg, VA (June 20, 2007) - As the Virginia Legacy is coming off a long weekend, the team looks to enjoy the mid-week off as they look ahead to their Saturday match-up against the Ocean City Barons.
The contest should be a crucial one with playoff implications as the Legacy currently sits in 2nd Place with a total of 18 points after 10 games. Although being undefeated and only giving up two goals thus far, the Barons have only played in seven games and have recorded 17 points after a 5-0-2 record. The Barons hope to add to that point total this Wednesday as they face an even stingier defense than their own as they take on the 1st Place Hampton Roads Piranhas who has not given up a goal the entire season. The Barons will travel to Virginia Beach as they will make up a previously cancelled match between the two due to rain.
The Legacy has the entire week off, but is coming off an extremely demanding road trip as they traveled to West Virginia and then Fredericksburg the following day. In the double header, the team played the Chaos on Friday night after a 6 hour bus ride and came up victorious as they downed the Chaos in a 2-0 showing. Erwin Diaz opened the scoring after a Doug Ernst assist to put the Legacy up 1-0. After a red card was issued to each team, things got a little heated but Virginia was able to add to their lead. Andrew Hoxie recorded his fourth goal of the season and put the game out of reach in the final minutes of the match.
As the team quickly made their way to Fredericksburg that evening, the Legacy faced the Gunners in an afternoon match-up, however, things did not go in their favor like the night before. The Legacy came out slow and Fredericksburg made them pay for it. The Gunners opened the scoring early in the first half and never looked back. The game finished 4-0 in Fredericksburg’s favor.
After a split weekend, the Legacy is looking to get back to their winning ways as they travel to New Jersey this weekend. These three points are critical for both teams’ future as the second half of the season gets underway.
