The Williamsburg Legacy PDL Team Changes Name
Team Will Now be Known as the Virginia Legacy

Williamsburg, VA (January 17, 2007)  - As of today, January 17, 2007, the former Williamsburg Legacy, a member of the Premier Development League, will now be known as the Virginia Legacy. The Williamsburg Legacy has been part of the PDL since its acquisition in 2001 and will continue its tradition from here on out under its new name.

The name change came about with the merging of two highly prominent youth clubs in Williamsburg, Virginia. The Williamsburg Soccer Club and Colonial Football Club came together in May of 2006 and formed the Virginia Legacy Soccer Club. With the new club in place, the PDL team has now decided to change their name from the Williamsburg Legacy to the Virginia Legacy to keep consistency throughout the entire club tier. “We are extremely excited about the new name and the upcoming PDL season. Our PDL team sits atop our youth club and we are happy to have the Legacy tradition continue from our youngest member to our oldest and most prestigious. It is definitely an exciting time for our club and the Williamsburg area,” says Director of Operations and Assistant Coach for the Virginia Legacy, Bobby O’Brien.           

The new team will start training May 1, 2007 and will be coached by Kevin Darcy, also the Director of Coaching for the Virginia Legacy Soccer Club. The new name is effective immediately and with the new name comes a new look. The club has also released a new logo that will represent the Virginia Legacy from this point forward.

The Virginia Legacy Soccer Club is a 501-C3 non-profit organization based out of Williamsburg, Virginia. Legacy Soccer offers some of the top facilities in southeastern Virginia including the Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex (WISC) and the Warhill Sports Complex. The Williamsburg Legacy, a USL Premier Development Team, is at the top of the Legacy Soccer tier. The club offers a variety of playing level options, cost packages, and opportunities. Legacy Soccer aims to pioneer, develop, and continuously be on the cutting edge of youth soccer in the area and country.
