Former Legacy players taking their play to the next level

4 former VLSC travel players now on Legacy PDL team

Williamsburg, VA (June 20, 2007)  -  As players work their way up from the youth ranks in travel soccer, many players have aspirations of playing at the next level. Whether that means making it to the highest level of international play or competing within the collegiate program, many players are looking for more after the youth game.

With the Premier Development League in place, it works as a springboard for a lot of players to propel their game to the next level. Some of the top collegiate players in the country participate in the PDL every summer and use it to showcase their talent. It is very common for players to come out of the PDL and make it in to the professional level every year, both in the USL and MLS.

Our club is unique to many others has we offer an immediate segway into the next level of play with our PDL franchise right here within our club. The team brings in some of the top collegiate and amateur players in the country and competes to be one of the top teams in the country year in and year out. But not only does the team bring in players from out of town, many players from within our travel club end up playing for the squad as well. This year is no exception.

With four former VLSC players currently on the 2007 roster, the Legacy travel program is well represented. Antonio Harley, Patrick Brown, Andrew Hoxie, and Brian Davis are all former Virginia Legacy Soccer Club members and are now some of the top players on this year’s team.

Antonio Harley is the youngest of the group just finishing up his last year with the club program as he played on the U18 Wizards under head coach, Johnny Kamara. Harley is set to attend Appalachian State University in the fall and is hoping this PDL experience will properly prepare him for that transition.

Patrick Brown, currently a Lynchburg College student-athlete, played for the club last year and the year before on the two-time State Champion U19 Wizard team. Patrick is one of the star defenders on the PDL this year and has had much success on the youth stage.

Along with Patrick Brown, Andrew Hoxie was a member of that U19 Wizards State Champion team and now plays his collegiate ball here in Williamsburg for William & Mary. Hoxie is a stand out forward for the Tribe and is an All-South Atlantic Region player and All-CAA.

A third member from that successful U19 State Champion team also participates with this year’s PDL squad. Brian Davis, standout defender for the Christopher Newport University soccer team gives the Legacy PDL squad another defensive threat. For the Captains of CNU, Davis was an NSCAA All-South Regional Player this past year as a sophomore and led his team into the second round of the NCAA tournament.

With such a strong youth level travel program that the VLSC has to offer, the PDL team will continue to draw from this vast pool of talent. It is evident that the club is moving in the right direction as it sees its own players competing, as well as succeeding at the next level.
