Goals:
The emphasis of the VLSC travel team program is on skill development and competition. Our
goal is to teach youngsters the fundamentals of the game and to improve their technical
and tactical abilities.
Traveling:
Generally, VLSC teams play 8-12 games in the VCCL or SEVYSA leagues per season. There
are usually five home games and five away games. Away travel during regular season is no
further than an hour and fifteen minutes (except in VCCL to Roanoke in the
spring). During each of the
two seasons, Spring and Fall, each VLSC team will travel to at least two tournaments.
Tournament input comes from coaches and the Director of Coaching.
The VLSC "Club Event Structure"
is to be adhered to by each age group. Additional
tournaments may be attended by individual teams. Tournaments are considered an integral
part of development of the VLSC players. When participating in tournaments which allow
guest players, the coach reserves the right to invite guest players to maintain the
team’s competitive position or to substitute for players unable to participate due to
injury or emergency.
Attendance Policy:
There are two practices per week. Both will be between one and
half and two hours long. Games are played on
Sundays with games generally starting no earlier than 12:00 p.m. There may also be the
occasional Saturday game. Each season is roughly 10-12 weeks long. It is imperative that
all of these three sessions are attended each week so that the team can develop and
function as a whole. Parents and players should understand this commitment before electing
to play for a club team if offered a roster spot.
Parent Participation and
Costs
Parent participation is an important part of the program. Participation on a team
requires also that parents support club sponsored activities and play an active role at
our Labor Day tournament, "The Williamsburg Cup" and Memorial Day
Tournament, "The Jamestown Cup. Travel team soccer is
self-funding. Per player costs to participate are estimated to be between
$250-$400 per
season plus uniforms. Fees include instructional costs, insurance, league fees, referees,
VLSC dues, tournament fees, State Cup fees, team administration fees, and
league administrative fees.. All fees must be paid in order for a player to participate. There is
scholarship assistance available.
