Overview
The Virginia Legacy Soccer Club has developed a complete program for beginning and aspiring travel players. The youth development program is methodically structured to give all players the proper learning environment they need to improve. The 1st Touch Soccer Academy intorduces the game to beginning players in a fun-filled environment. Each year, players will build upon various techniques needed to succeed on the field. The Futures Academy is intended to act as the bridge between the developmental and travel programs within the club. Players will experience more structured training sessions and have the opportunity to play against other clubs while remaining in the Williamsburg area.
1st Touch Soccer Academy
The 1st Touch Soccer Academy consist of four (4) seperate programs geared for children ages two (2) through six (6). Each program will concentrate on basic athletic movements and the importance of coordination. They will touch upon the basic fundamentals of passing, close ball control, and how to get comfortable with the ball. The children will experience match play during the last program, the Lil' Strikers.
Futures Academy
The Futures Academy is the next stage in a young player's development. It is intended to act as a bridge between the developmental and travel programs. The program helps the players learn and develop the proper technique in all aspects of soccer. Part of the program will concentrate on technical development and ball control. The second part of the academy will center around how to make tactical decisions as they experience small-sided play. The Futures Academy will be a two (2) day-a-week program including a day only for matches. Boys and girls will participate in gender specific matches on the weekend. Each player will have the tools to move to the select travel club after the Futures Academy.
Futures Select
We also offer the Futures Select program in an effort to provide a higher level of competition for our youth players. Futures Select is strictly invitation only and is intended to cater to our more developed players and provide advanced training and challenging matches. Our Futures Select players will train two times a week, once as a group and then again with our U10 Travel Academy to get more acclimated to our travel program. All training sessions will be run by the directors of the program, Bobby O’Brien, Dan Lader and Johnny Kamara and the group will be limited to 25 participants. Matches will also be arranged each weekend to compete against our U10 travel teams and other local travel programs. The group will be submitted into a local tournament at the end of each season. The goal of the Futures Select program is to give the players an opportunity to compete at a higher level and to make the transition into our travel program much smoother.
